3 Doors Down is one of the most popular mainstream rock acts of the moment and the songs on this EP have already proven themselves. A mix of songs from "Away From The Sun" and "Seventeen Days" is featured on this short EP that offers them in an acoustic version.
Landing in London is the best song and Let Me Go translates surprisingly well as an acoustic track. Maybe also because it is the most fun to sing along to out of the featured songs. Production value on this EP is pretty solid though I would've liked a little more tweaking in the arrangements of Here Without You and Be Somebody because in my opinion the acoustic versions don't add too much to the songs. And while Let Me Go sounds great acoustic, the arrangement isn't all that different from the regular version. In fact, that would be my little note of criticism for the whole record.
The songs are strong, well-written and because the music isn't as loud you can hear the astounding quality of Brad Arnold's vocals come through even better than usual. But to release acoustic versions that are basically the same as the regular versions just not as loud doesn't warrant a record to me. They could've released the songs in this version as is. I would liked to have heard the songs adapted and adjusted for this purpose so we can hear the versatility and creativity this band actually does have. You can hear it a little bit on Landing in London which is an incredible track regardless of the version they play. So the "Acoustic EP" is a fun little collecters item for the fans but as a standalone record it could've been much more interesting.
