Christmas albums. I've never really gotten the appeal but it seems every self-respecting band releases one sooner or later. 3 Doors Down joins the tradition with "Where My Christmas Lives". Though I'd rather call it a Christmas single as it features a holiday tune and acoustic versions of songs from their self-titled album. The album songs translate really well to acoustic versions but like on past releases the arrangements are rather similar to the original versions which makes me wonder why these versions are released on an actual record but hey, we make a tree look pretty for Christmas, so I suppose the same goes for a record. Besides, the songs are pretty damn good in their original arrangement, so it's not like it's a punishment to hear them.
The Christmas song however, is a little boring. It carries on and on but there isn't really a climax and it doesn't have the band's regular levels of tension, energy and passion. It's a fine tune but it's not a tune that's either wildly impressive or commercially very attractive. A nice little tune for the fans but that's about it.
