What I Do & Why I Do It:
Inner Ear Media provides album reviews and personal interviews with bands and musicians from around the world.
My philosophy when it comes to music: it has to connect to people in one way or another. It evokes an emotion, it brings back a memory, it inspires you, it energizes you, it leaves you thinking. It could be the smallest piece within a song or lyric that gets to you, but if it does, you will connect. That's the beauty of music (and of art in general). And that's why all my reviews are nothing more than an opinion. It's the way I feel about it, I'm not stating facts, I'm not trying to tell you what to think or how to feel about something. I do however explain what I feel and think and try to give you a little insight into the band, musician and their work. Most of the time you will find my reviews to sound positive or at least constructive. Sometimes people ask me: "Do you really like all those albums?" To a certain extent I do, but of course I have my doubts about some of them and of course some of them don't speak to me as loudly. I do however find bits and pieces that I can connect to, or I can see the potential in what I hear. And that's what my review will focus on. Music has no need to be perfect but it does have a need to be heard. And I am always listening... |
History & Future:A lifelong music afficionado I decided to start a website devoted to musicians and bands that hadn't yet made it big. In 2002 I launched such a website called "The Music Vault". It helped young and upcoming bands and musicians to spread word about their music and connect them with new fans.
More and more, the focus shifted and I started to add band promotion, music reviews and small interviews to the website and through these outlets, "The Music Vault" grew steadily. After a couple of years, in 2004/2005 the site grew bigger than I had anticipated and it was hard for me to maintain it by myself. This is why I tried to enlist other people to help me out. For a while, this worked and up to 2009 the site thrived under a new name: "Inner Ear Media". Since then, times have become busier, as studies and jobs have not allowed me to spend as much free time on this project as I would want to and the site has had its downtime through the years. This is why the site has become more toned down and focuses primarily on connected artists. This group of bands and musicians may grow over time as I connect with new bands or reconnect with old acquaintances. There will still be a vast archive of reviews and a list of interviews. Both will be added to regularly but don't expect a new post everyday. To make sure there is regular new content, I decided to add more interactive elements to Inner Ear Media. Guest posts by bands and musicians will appear every so often and you will be able to request certain things. And though I can't get to every request, I will certainly go through them all and try to make happen as many as I can. Promotional giveaways, contests and end of year awards should eventually become part of the website as well, but to ensure those can go off without a hitch, I'm going to take my time implementing those elements. I will also try to organize moments where you can connect with some of our artists (think Q&A, fan interview, group chat) and exclusive media content, once the site is up and running smoothly. I hope you all enjoy your visit to Inner Ear Media and I hope to see you back here soon! Thanks for your visit, it is greatly appreciated! |
