Cordless, a German band with 4 young, talented musicians releases their demo EP. It’s only 4 tracks, but it gives you a good insight in what this band is capable of. Catchy hooks and melodic pop/rock from a high standard, especially considering these guys are just starting out.
Leaving
Leaving is the strongest track on this four-piece. It is clear that the vocals are a big part of the recognizable sound. Tim Fischer’s soothing voice combined with the tight instrumentals kick off this EP with flair. Leaving is a catchy modern rock song and better than many songs from similar genres that I hear on the radio. I’m impressed with how this band builds up momentum in the songs without losing the excitement. They create a kind of tensin on this song that is just right for it.
Hopeless
This song has a little more underground sound. I keep waiting for the song to take off, and I feel it could use a little more spunk, but the gentle, sensitive feel it has probably works really well when played live & acoustic. It’s a song that’s open for different possibilities when played live, but I feel that the recorded version on the demo lacks a little guts.
Everyone Like Me
Then we get the alternative rocker Everyone Like Me. This is another really strong song. I’m especially impressed with the rhythmic qualities of this song. It’s a pretty cool song because there’s a dynamic between the rhythm in the song and the lush melody.
All My Life Tonight
All My Life Tonight is a piano ballad that is excellent to end this EP with. With a sensitive approach and solid musicianship, this song brings the EP to a beautiful end.
For fans of bands like Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse, Semisonic, Augustana & Counting Crows, this band will most likely be of your liking. The cleverly composed pop/rock tunes have a recognizable sound and are radio friendly. They have the slight alternative edge that is popular these days and the band is working as a team. This demo shows there still is some growing to be done, but every segment of a good band is there. This young German band has what it takes to take the world by storm!
