Independent release
David Beebee released his impressive debut a couple years ago, but this EP marks a new phase. This EP was a collective effort instead of a solo effort. With a slightly more alternative approach than on dB², the band David Beebee shows they are a group of excellent musicians capable of playing 4 rock gems.
Void
This EP starts off with the alternative rocker Void, and David Beebee are off to a great start. Great guitar work and the support of the rhythmic section is excellent. There are some free tempo changes through out the song, but when it gets going it carries on nicely and is actually quite catchy.
Division
Division is the strongest contribution to this EP. Starting off gently, the focus in this song is on the guitar & the vocals. The band builds up the momentum really well. This song deserves to be played on the radio. It’s not really a ballad, it’s not an anthem, and it’s not upbeat. Not sure how to describe it, but I love it. This song’s a little mellower than the previous one, and this style suits the band very well.
Here I Stand
The beautiful Here I Stand carries on in the same pace & tradition as Division though it shifts slightly more towards alternative rock (Breaking Benjamin/3 Doors Down). This song sounds like it could be really energetic when played live. It can’t top Division but it sure comes close.
Disengage
This 4-piece ends with Disengage, a suiting title for the finale of this EP. It’s a song that’s played with conviction and balls. Good energy, and yet it still has a certain catchiness. It kinda gives me a sense of fulfillment. Even though it was only for 4 songs, it feel like a complete CD.
For those of you who weren’t too convinced after David’s solo release, I suggest you listen to these songs. Three of them are on Last.fm & Myspace, so they’re easy to find. The lead song Division is the strongest track but the other 3 aren’t far behind. Good energy and creativity. The band David Beebee is easing into their own sound and it’s a sound I can applaud. Good to have these guys back on the map!
