Q: Hello aeroplane, how are things on your end?
A: Really good here! We re busy promoting our new single Stop/Start. We got to film our first music video too..which we loved doing! You ll find it on You Tube!
Q: You’re releasing your new album, “Wishstar”. How would you describe the album and the songs on it?
A: I tend to like songs that are more melancholic, dare I say emotional and that is certainly true on ‘Wishstar’ but I like to think that its an optimistic album too. It’s certainly an album for fans of anthemic indie guitars! With a more meaningful lyric..
Q: Where does the album title, “Wishstar”, come from? Is there a story behind it?
A: As the title track ‘Wishstar’ the song is about looking for some answers in your life! You know.. those moments, when you find yourself staring up at the sky! It just seemed the natural choice as the album title!..
Q: So far, the album seems to be getting some good press. How is the release and the events involving the release of the album changing your lives and career?
A: Yeah we ve had some great feedback..Our lives havent changed too much yet..We had a great launch night gig and managed to sell out the venue..which was amazing for us! As a new band its difficult to publicise the album and not having a huge budget for promotion. It’s down to us to let people know about it and not just leaving it to our record company NR One. That means that there’s lots of time sitting on a computer just spreading the word really. We’re proud of the album and want lots of people to hear it! We are always looking for new places to play. So anyone out there putting on gigs please get in touch!
Q: What will be the next step for aeroplane? Any exciting plans to take the album out on the road?
A: We’re looking in to trying to set up some dates in europe for early next year.. We have some connections in Spain and Italy so we’ll be looking to go there for sure! I guess now we have a contact in Holland..! so playing there would be cool too!! We ll have more news on gigs soon so keep checking our myspace. We are already beginning to write new material too for the next record.
Q: Speaking of ‘on the road’. If the choice was yours, where in the world would you want to play a show?
A: Madison Square Gardens in New York would be nice!!
Q: And if you could also pick a band or musician to share the stage with, who would you like to play that show with?
A: I was a huge fan of The Police when I was growing up. So having Sting guesting on a song or two would be brilliant!!
Q: Who are the main influences for your sound and song writing?
A: The Police were obviously an inspiration for me to get into songwriting and playing in bands initially.. when I first started writing for Wishstar I was listening to a band called ‘Hope Of The States’,which I think influenced my guitar playing a little..but I think aeroplane’s sound is more in the field of bands like Feeder Longview and Coldplay.. the more commercial side of indie I guess!
Q: The band has only been together a fairly short time. How did you manage to transform into a tight musical unity in such a short time?
A: I used to work as an engineer/producer in a studio, so I have a good grip on the technical side too.. and I met the rest of the guys whilst recording them in other bands in that time.. So I had almost auditioned them without them realising! When i had written some of the songs for the album i made contact with them all and we got together and started jamming the songs.. Its one of those things.. There s no real reason it just seemed to fall into place nicely! Ady, Simon and Marcus all bring their own thing to the band which you do need..and plenty of practise too!!
Q: “Stop Start” is the lead single for your album. Why did you choose this song in particular?
A: Stop Start was one of those songs that during the making of the album we had’nt really thought much about!.. When we sent out the album promo copies and suddenly ‘Stop Start ‘was getting a lot of mentions in reviews. So I guess it kind of chose itself to be the single!
Q: As a band trying to make a name for yourself, it’s not always easy, especially in today’s music industry. Do you have any tips for starting bands?
A: Just to do everything to the best of your ability! Dedicate good time to whatever you are doing.Do it for yourself and because you love it..and enjoy the moment don’t do it for being famous or getting a record deal.. If its going to happen it will!!
Q: If you wouldn’t be musicians, what would you be doing instead?
A: I quite like painting and photography..but at the moment I dont really do much of either! I ve just started writing a novel.. it will probably take me years to finish, but who knows what might happen?..
Q: What is the best thing, and what is the hardest thing about being a musician?
A: The best thing is when you get a really good idea for a song! Thats always exciting. The hardest is when you ve been hearing those songs too much for example in trying to finish the album it can get painful.. I always wish when that happens that I could erase my memory and walk in and hear the finished song, as if it were the first time I’d heard them!!
Q: Where can people find out more about aeroplane and purchase the music?
A: Visit our myspace www.myspace.com/aeroplanerock for pictures videos news..

Q: Okay a few random questions now.
Q: Day or night?
A: Day
Q: Club venue or arena venue?
A: Only done clubs! So I’ll say arena..!!?
Q: CDs or digital music?
A: CDs
Q: Okay, final question. What are your thoughts on people downloading music, both legally & illegally?
A: mmm… Legally its great of course..I dont think you ll ever stop illegal downloads so!? I always think that as a musician its cool that even if people are downloading your music for free.. at least that means they like you enough to want it!! but the money thing is difficult. If you ve put all that effort and money in to a project then some financial reward is needed..
Thank you aeroplane for answering our questions. It is very much appreciated!
