Q: Hey Chad, how have you been?
A: I’ve been busy… but I’m doing well. Trying to enjoy life as often and as much as possible… you?
Q: First of all, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
A: I’m short. I’m a Scorpio. I grew up listening and loving music… and I still do. I have a great family and the best friends I could ask for… As of right now, I’m located just north of Boston. I think that’s about it…
oh, and I play music too…
Q: People might remember you from the band Averi. How different is your solo work from Averi’s music?
A: Being the songwriter for both, I think the only thing that has changed are the arrangements and the way each song is approached. Being on my own now gives me complete control over a song’s destiny.
Q: How do you experience being a solo artist compared to being in a band? What is the main difference?
A: Again, I think it’s just a matter of being in control and accepting responsibility for the music I put out there… for better or for worse.
Q: In 2006, you released your solo debut Used To Dream. How was the response?
A: I think the response was a good one. Sonically, it was different than anything I had put out before, so I think it took some people off guard, but I was really pleased with the general response to the songs and the record.
Q: Where did the inspiration for the songs on the album come from?
A: I get asked this a lot and the truth is, there isn’t one place or person that I draw inspiration from. It’s cliche to say, but life provides plenty to write about.
Q: Which of the songs on the album is the most interesting to perform live?
A: It all depends on the room, the auidience and my mood. I still really enjoy playing Let You Sleep.
Q: You are already working on your sophomore album. How is it progressing?
A: It’s slow, but it’s coming along. The songs are starting to take shape… so, we’re approaching the exciting part of being in the studio. I’m really excited for people to hear this when it’s done…
Q: You are nominated for a Boston Music Award this year in the category of ‘outstanding singer/songwriter’. (Congratulations, by the way, we hope you’ll win, you deserve it)
But if you were the one picking the nominees, what three singer/songwriters would you have nominated?
A: That’s not only a good question, but a really tough one to answer. There’s so much talent in the local Boston area right now, it would be tough to narrow it down. I’m thankful I wasn’t asked… but I’m quite honored to be nominated.
Q: Who would you say are the greatest influences on your sound and songwriting?
A: I can’t help feeling like I’m influenced by everything I come across. In addition to all my favorite artists, I can’t help but feel attracted to so much of the music that came out of the 80’s.
Q: If you could play a show anywhere in the world, where would you want to play?
A: Maybe the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.
Q: And if you could also pick someone to play that gig with, who would it be?
A: Bruce Springsteen
Q: Where can we find out more about Chad Perrone?
A: Either chadperronemusic.com or myspace.com/chadperrone
Q: Okay a few random questions now.
Q: Who was the best songwriter in The Beatles?
A: Ugghh… umm… John Lennon
Q: Day or night?
A: Day
Q: Club venue or arena venue?
A: Club
Q: CDs or digital music?
A: CDs
Q: Okay, final question. What are your thoughts on people downloading music, both legally & illegally?
A: It’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. As a songwriter trying to make a living, I need people to buy the product I’m selling… but there is also the part of me that is just glad someone is listening.
Thanks for the interview Chad, it was a pleasure talking to you!
