Q: Hey guys, how have you been?
A: Been good. Love touring with Polyphonic Spree and Redwalls. They are great!
Q: You guys have recently released your sophomore album, Calling The World, featuring the hit single When Did Your Heart Go Missing. How would you describe the new album? And what are the main differences with your debut, Rooney?
A: The new record is just a more evolved version of the sound we’ve always made together. The single features a drum and bass rhythm that we haven’t used before. The idea behind it is that it would be danceable.
Q: There are a lot of catchy and enjoyable tracks on “Calling The World”. Have you already picked a follow-up single to “When Did Your Heart Go Missing”?
A: We weigh in on that but ultimately the record company has to promote the single. We are hoping it will be I Should’ve Been After You.
Q: You have just returned from a European tour, your first actual European tour if I’m not mistaken. How has it been? Any great adventures?
A: Europe has been great to us. We have 2 more tours planned there already.
Q: How different is it, playing in Europe, compared to playing in North America?
A: The European crowds are very receptive to our sound and very warm to us. We enjoy the culture and atmosphere. It’s so great to tour over there.
Q: You guys have quite a unique sound. Who would you consider the biggest influences on your sound & songwriting?
A: Beatles, Beach Boys, Zombies, Kinks, Stones, Argent, ELO, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Todd Rundgren, etc.
Q: About the songwriting, who usually writes the songs? And do you usually start with the lyrics, or with the music, or is it different every time?
A: Most of the songs have been by Robert so far. He writes in different ways…no set process. He enjoys experimenting with the Mac program garage band.
Q: You guys have been making music for a while now. What would you say are the best things about being a musician, and what are the worst things about it?
A: Best thing is playing and recording. Worst is being away from home, hard travel, photo shoots are also really boring.
Q: What if you guys weren’t musicians, what would you want to be doing for a living?
A: Trying to produce records for other artists.
Q: If you guys could pick only one song to play a cover of, what song would it be? And why that song?
A: Right now were covering Runaway by Del Shannon and I really enjoy it.
Q: If you guys could tour with any band or musician in the world, who would you pick? And why?
A: Paul McCartney
Q: What’s your favorite place that you have performed?
A: Amsterdam
Q: And if you could perform anywhere in the world, what location would you really want to play?
A: South America
Q: Where can people go for more information on Rooney?
A: myspace.com/rooney
Q: Okay a few random questions now.
Q: Day or night?
A: Night
Q: Club venue or arena venue?
A: Club
Q: CDs or digital music?
A: Good music. Format doesn’t matter. Although iPod is most convenient.
Q: Okay, final question. What are your thoughts on people downloading music, both legally & illegally?
A: Paying for music is good and you should be proud to do. Stealing it is bad, even though we all do it. We should be ashamed of ourselves.
Thank you Taylor, for taking the time to do the interview. It’s been a pleasure!
