A little over two years ago I had to face facts and make some hard choices. I had started a new career path in education that was taking up more and more of my time. This left me with fewer and fewer moments to really listen to music on a deeper level, to visit a multitude of concerts and festivals that caused me to write about music much more irregularly. So I did what I figured was the right call and I first put Inner Ear Media on the backburner and eventually announced my hesitant retirement from the website.
However....
There's a saying in Dutch "het bloed kruipt waar hiet niet gaan kan" which very loosely translates as "it is in his/her blood". I believe that saying says it all. The past few years consisted of emotional ups and downs but there was hardly any rhyme or reason to it. At times I felt like a wanderer without a compass. It's taken me some time to realize it but it is now very clear that music and writing about music used to be my guide, my compass, my direction. I won't be able to operate like I did in the past. My responsibilities at home and at work deserve and require my full attention and devotion and so I shall provide that vigorously. At the same time I deserve and require my compass back to set out my course in life. Therefore I decided to carefully crack open Inner Ear Media's door again. Not by posting reviews and interviews whenever I find the time, though I may well post some every so often, but to create an outlet for my thoughts, discoveries, surprises, disappointments, chance encounters and confusions as music continues to guide my way through this journey of life we all share.
So feel free to drop in every once in a while, say hi, share your thoughts or comment on something I wrote, whether you believe it to be utter nonsense, an enlightened thought, or anything in between. I'd love to hear your insights. As a wise man once wrote/sang: "I'm running from nothing / no thoughts in my mind .... if it weren't for second chances / we'd all be alone."
