Q: Hello Hoover!, how are you guys doing?
A: We are doing fantastic! There’s sun and there is music! What more can a man want?
Q: First of all, can you give us a short introduction of who you are and what you do?
A: We are HOOVER. We are a 3 piece band from the Amsterdam area. After playing in Limburg (south of holland) for a while we decided to move to the north of holland. Mainly for work, but there’s also a larger music scene here. This is where we found Aldo, our current drummer. Now we are how we are..
Q: You guys recently released the album “Uncertain Things” How would you describe it? And how does it compare to your previous release?
A: Uncertain Things is the next step in our growth path of being musicians.. The outcome was uncertain .. Hahaha.. But we’re proud! We released 2 ep’s before, a live EP called Rebirth and a self-titled 7 track ep. Compared to the older EP’s this one is more mature. Although I have to say I’m not completely satisfied with the production.. It is not as raw as we wanted it to be. But recording can be quite hard. How to catch the sound that you normaly produce? That is much more raw and direct. But hey! You live and you learn! On the other hand I am quite happy that we managed to produce the 3rd cd. There’s not many bands that can say this. Its hard to do. It takes a lot of energy as a band..
Q: A lot of time goes into creating and producing an album and there are many things going on in the process. What is the toughest and what is the most rewarding part of the whole process?
A: The recording, as a proces, is really a great thing to do.. To be creative and actually doing the playing is nice.. I found the mixing the hardest. It takes a lot of time and precision and im not really a patience guy hahaha .. But really I love being in the studio!
Q: How have people been responding to the new album so far? And how is the response affecting you?
A: Everyone that hears the record likes it.. They know this our baby.. But its not really who we are live. I think were more energetic and “in your face” on stage. The next album we’ll really try to take the learnings and produce an even better album.
Q: A lot of bands find it exciting to take the new songs on the road and play them live. What is the coolest song off “Uncertain Things” to play live? And why that song?
A: Hmm Uncertain things or to commit oneself.. It just delivers a punch!
Q: Speaking of playing live, do you guys have any exciting touring plans coming up?
A: Hahaha we are playing several times a week as we speak .. No more time left.. We actually are trying to cut down a bit. Get more quality instead of quantity..
Q: The music industry has been pretty hard on a lot of bands and labels in the past couple of years. And the internet has taken a much more important place in it. How have you been experiencing these developments?
A: The internet is a great place, like your site, we love these things. The industry is hard to manage… They wont support you unless you are big, and you wont get big without support .. Catch 22!
Q: If you could play with anyone or any band in the world, who would you pick, and for what reason?
A: queens of the stone age.. They rule. Period.
Q: And if you could also pick a venue or town, anywhere in the world, where would you like to play?
A: Any great venue in seattle .. Thats the place to be!
Q: And who are your biggest influences when it comes to sound and songwriting?
A: Hmm difficult.. Since I write all the songs I get a lot of comments of what it sounds like.. The truth is I dont really listen to so many different bands. We are often compared to a mix of Queens of the Stone age / nirvana / sound garden.. But when I wrote these songs I never really listened to these bands.. (should I be ashamed?? Hahaha)
Q: Where can people go to find out more about Hoover!?

Q: Day or night?
A: NIGHT
Q: Club venue or arena venue?
A: CLUB
Q: CDs or digital music?
A: hmm CDs at home .. Digital on my Mac
Q: Okay, final question. What are your thoughts on people downloading music, both legally & illegally?
A: If we could make it alot easier and cheaper to dowload legally then there would be no issue! I download illegal, and i I like it I’ll buy the album .. If I dont like it I wouldn’t listen to it anyway!
