Q: Hey guys, how’s it going?
A: Life is splendid chaos at all times… We’re all doing well, writing new music, playing some killer shows, enjoying another summer in “Hotlanta”
Q: First of all, can you tell us a little bit about Lazyeye?
A: Well… We’ve been doing this for 12 years now; we’re official at this point. As many of you know we were the first (and only) Rock act ever signed to Disturbing Tha Peace Records, we’ve had records featured on Platinum and Gold records, we’ve worked with and shared the stage some really cool people; Ludacris, Field Mob, Papa Roach, Green Day, Busta Rhymes, Method Man & Redman to name a few, we’ve been featured on “THE TONIGHT SHOW” w. Jay Leno, but mainly we’re just some kids from Georgia that love playing music… Finding a way to make a career out of music has simply been the icing on the cake!
Q: Where does the name Lazyeye come from?
A: Our guitar player (Jacob) was born with one; it has since been corrected, but the name will live on FOREVER!!!
Q: What is the most memorable show you have ever played?
A: That’s tough… Hmmm…
* Dec. 13th 2004 we were on The Tonight Show with Ludacris doing our rock rendition of his smash song “Get Back”; that experience was so surreal!
* The following night we performed the same song and a melody of songs with Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, & Method Man at the 1st Annual Spike TV Video Game Awards… We shared the stage that night with Papa Roach, Green Day, Motley Crue, Snoop Dogg, and a million other very cool people, with whom we’d had the pleasure of meeting/vibing with all day during the rehearsals.
* Our best hometown show would have to be when we played a Georgia Tech’s Alexander Memorial Coliseum for Homecoming in front of 13,000+ people; oh yeah, Ludacris was there too!
Q: You guys recently released your new CD, Lights In The Attic, how would you describe it?
A: “Lights in the Attic” is a live acoustic CD and it is one we are very proud to release. We take great pride in our songwriting ability and feel that this disc gives some insight into our music that a fully produced disc might not. The sound is raw but beautifully done, the words are clear for everyone to learn and sing along, “Lights…” is who we are when we are “writing” the music, “Lights…” is a glimpse into how we make the music that you guys love, we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it!
Q: How would you say the band and the sound have developed between your self-titled album and Lights in the Attic?
A: We’ve grown up… We’ve had life experiences that come alive in song; it’s a very cool experience!
Q: Which of your songs are you most proud of writing, and why so?
A: “No… You Are #1″ and “This is Your Captain Speaking” will always be our favorite songs to play live. The energy from those songs is palpable and you can feel the crowd ebb and sway with every note. We’re not really a mosh-pit inspiring band so when we see one it’s magical in that it wasn’t forced, it was brought on by the energy of the song(s)… I guess we are most proud of those because they illicit the response that every musician is seeking; INSTANT GRATIFICATION!!!
Q: Which of your songs is the most fun to play live and why?
A: I think I just answered that one; I’ll throw in “Upside Down” as well because the drum intro usually whips the crowd into a sick frenzy, then we rawk their faces off!
Q: What is next in store for Lazyeye? Any exciting plans for the near future?
A: New Electric record, summer touring, new songs, a whole bunch of shiny new-ness!!!
Q: Who are the biggest inspirations for you guys, musically and in terms of songwriting?
A: The biggest inspirations… Hmmm… Life experience, I guess..
We all love a lot of bands and like their music, but thats THEIR MUSIC and we applaud them for their individuality.
I can say that we all love The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Incubus, 311, Jay-Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, Early Pearl Jam, The Used, Atreyu, and Breaking Benjamin… So many bands, so much good music!
Q: What are your sources of inspiration when writing songs? Do you have a special approach for writing songs or do you just go along with whatever comes to you and work it out to a song?
A: Song writing can’t be forced; we’ve proved that time & time again.
* we’ll usually get together and piece riffs until we have something; if it doesn’t click in the first 5 minutes it isn’t going to click!
Q: If the choice were yours, and you could play anywhere in the world, where would you want to play one day?
A: The Redding Festival in the UK or The International Pot Festival in Amsterdam!
Q: And who would you like to play that show with, and why?
A: Incubus, 311, and The Rolling Stones!
Why? Why not, those bands rawk face and have for decades!!!
Q: Is there a song by another musician that you wish you would’ve written? And if so, what song would that be, and why?
A: Nah, I’ll applaud other musicians for having their moment!
Q: Okay a few random questions now.
Q: Do you read? If so, what books would you recommend?
A: I know our bass player (Chris Giessen) would be pissed if i didn’t mention that he loves the Dark Tower series by Steven King… I’m not much of a reader, although i did like “The Power of Now”
Q: Day or night?
A: Night time is the right time!
Q: Club venue or arena venue?
A: Hard question, both have their good points, personally I love the packed club atmosphere where everyone involved feels like a part of the show. Arena’s are awesome but the separation from the crowd is a little daunting.
Q: CDs or digital music?
A: Music, don’t care what form it comes!
Q: Okay, final question. What are your thoughts on people downloading music, both legally & illegally?
A: I think illegal downloading has hurt a lot of people, but at the same time it has helped us spread the name of (lazyeye) around the globe… We’re all about the digital age as it makes it much easier to get our music in the hands of our European, Asian, South American, Australian, and North American fans.
And you, THE FANS, is why we do this music thang!!!
