Days Difference has been a personal favorite for awhile, and “Numbers” is just going to confirm my confidence in this young but talented band. With 10 excellent songs they are ready to take over the world.
Last Night
With a brilliant opener like Last Night, Days Difference makes it clear that this is not just another band. With a sound that ranges somewhere between Coldplay, The Fray & Delaware, this band makes amazing alternative songs with a slightly melancholic sound. Passionately performed, Last Night is a great example of that.
End of the Line
The alternative sounding End of the Line is another strong track, with amazing lyrics and a band that really is one. Everything fits together and the accents are in the right places. And with excellent vocals the package is complete.
Unaware
Unaware is a potential radio single, and in my opinion also a potential chart topper. It’s catchy, it’s passionate, it has good tempo and energy and it is a damn good song.
Inside Out
Inside Out would make an excellent live song, with it’s uptempo speed and emotive sound. The keys work as amplifiers for this song, because they give the song extra body and lift it to a higher level.
Burn Out
Watch out Coldplay, you’ve got competition on your hands. Really. Burn Out is one of the strongest tracks on “Numbers”. This track is filled with emotion and performed very very well. The way it connects with the listener is simply brilliant.
Better Skies
Better Skies is another potential radio release. It has all the good qualities for a single release. It’s relatively catchy, the lyrics are very relatable and the song just sticks in your head forever. And it’s a great song to sing along to. And I always seem to be unable to keep my foot from tapping along when I listen to this song.
Faltering
This might be my least favorite song on “Numbers”, but I really can’t say anything bad about this song, because I love it. The guitar work on this track is strong, and the keys accentuate the right parts. The vocals are full of passion and the subtle begging-like emotion perfectly fits this song.
Parallels
The more up-tempo Parallels has a real alternative rock feel to it, and would make for another amazing live song, I believe. I would suggest you listen to the keys especially. They are sometimes subtle, sometimes they are very apparent, but they play a very important role in this song.
Sidewalks
The swingy Sidewalks is a song that is just simply beautiful. After I listen to it, it gets stuck in my head forever. It’s a song you can completely drown in, a song that you can really make a personal connection to. One of the best on “Numbers”.
Stay
Stay is the last track on the album, unfortunately. This duet between piano and vocals is just mind-blowing. The pure emotion and wonderful arrangement make for one of the best ballads by any independent band in the past 3 years, if not longer than that. For me, it’s just another reason to happily announce Days Difference to be one of my favorite bands.
At one point I called Days Difference the American answer to Coldplay. And I stand by that statement. They really are that good. And “Numbers” is only the beginning of their journey. I can only be very positive about this album and be very impressed. Days Difference is a name to watch.
