Chasing Ghosts releases a 6 song EP with clever and artistic songs with an alternative, indie character. The clever compositions and arrangements shape an artsy EP with plenty display of talent and passion.
My World Abandoned
My World Abandoned kicks off the EP. The haunting sounds and the piano intro lead into a heavy indie-rocker with a bit of post-rock influences here and there. You can hear quite well that this band worked really hard to get all the parts of the song together, but the music, rather than the vocals takes the front stage in this song. The vocals are decent and fit the song nicely, but the instrumentals are even more impressive.
Fragile Kites
The EP continues with the interesting Fragile Kites. The percussion is subtle but yet very important for this song. The vocals have more of a prominent role in this song and the dynamics between gentleness and melodic emotion are impressive. At first I found this song slightly rushed at times, but the more I listen to it, the more things come together, and the rushed becomes spirited and energetic. If you really listen to the song things start to fall together and you can hear the quality of it.
Too Beautiful
Too Beautiful starts with an acoustic guitar intro which slowly leads into the rest of the song, which remains mainly acoustic. The vocals and the guitar (backed up with nice and subtly arranged drums) are what captures the ear first and foremost. Vocally this is the best song on the album, and musically it is quite good too. Not as simple as Chasing Ghosts makes it sound.
Drift Asleep
The piano and drums are working together really well in this song, and when the guitar joins them it is just ear candy. Also, vocally this song is really strong. I would say this is the band’s best song on this EP. Also commercially the most attractive. It has a bit of mainstream feel to it, without really becoming mainstream, which I like. And in its own way it builds up a certain swing in the melody that is undeniably catchy.
The Masquerade
The Masquerade is a pretty sweet song. However it’s not the best on the EP. The band sounds like a well-oiled machine though and the musical arrangements are top notch. More proof that this band is a promise in the indie scene.
Odd Circles
Chasing Ghosts ends this EP in a very impressive manner. With Odd Circles they deliver another wonderful song. They create an atmosphere that they fill in with great music and passionate vocals. Odd Circles is another work of art that people all over the world should be able to hear.
“…and then we were infinite” is impressive and strong as an EP and with songs like Too Beautiful, Drift Asleep & Odd Circles this band should get a lot more recognition than they have gotten so far. A promising act that makes inspiring music that makes me hopeful for the future of independent bands. Chasing Ghosts is definitely a keeper.
