Last year AM released “Troubled Times” which was an excellent album and showed a lot of talent in this artist. Much like the debut album, “Soul Variations” is an album that you need to take some time for before you hear all it has to offer. Probably even more so than the previous album.

The sutble nuances and intriguing musical arrangements of the songs are a showcase of pure talent and the changes in intensity, sentiment and energy are so well timed that you can only applaud the songwriting and performance on this album.

It may not exactly pack the same punch “Troubled Times” did. It’s more of an album that is a complete package and has a more lasting quality. AM’s excellent vocals and beautiful song arrangements come to a full bloom in this singer-songwriter album. Singer-songwriter is a relative term though, because this album shows a lot of variations (no pun intended) as AM isn’t afraid to draw from various influences and genres in his songwriting.

The stand out songs are Live A Lie which is a very subtle song that really speaks to the listener, the bouncy and original We Will Remain and the paced rock & roll on Pulling Triggers which has an excellent beat. But all the other songs are strong too. I can’t really say there’s a song that stands out in a negative way at all. “Soul Variations” is more subtle and smooth than “Troubled Times” and has a slightly different sound and feel to it. But in my opinion AM is evolving and if not anything, this artist keeps you interested. After an impressive debut he returns with another very impressive album, “Soul Variations”.
