Amy Kuney
November 30, 2005
Independent release
Not long ago I stumbled upon this young pop singer/songwriter Amy Kuney. She’s actually a pretty decent songwriter and her sweet vocals are very pleasant to listen to. The songs are a lot of fun and quite catchy. I see no reason why mainstream radio wouldn’t eat up the songs on this EP. Maybe the mixing and production needs a little upgrade but the songs actually sound pretty good.
The catchy opener So Help Me God would be a pretty cool single and the breezy Sore Loser is one of the best songs on this release. The general sound of the EP is a breezy, laid-back kind of pop sound with a real singer/songwriter undertone. You could see Kuney as a more laid back version of KT Tunstall, Amy MacDonald, Kate Earl, etc.
“Breaking Bad Habits” is an interesting EP. Because of the high density of promising pop singers I don’t know if Amy Kuney will really get through with this release but the songs are pretty strong and Amy Kuney delivers convincingly. At the very least she is an upcoming singer/songwriter to watch. And if you listen to the album closer Breaking Bad Habits, a soulful ballad, you will likely agree with me on that point.
